Mid- Week Update

I did’nt have bus fare today, so I was’nt able to make my weekly trip to Evanston to return DVDs to the library. Therefore, I’ve another late fee to pay… But on the plus side, I get to finish re- watchinng Coupling season two. I win.

BOOKS

I’m happy to have back in my possession another copy of Harry Potter and The Prisoner of Azkaban so that I can continue re-reading the Harry Potter series.

MOVIES

What movies have I seen lately? Searching for The Sugar Man about the singer Rodriguez was really interesting… What an incredibly grateful and humble man… I would love to see him in concert. I also saw The Words with one of my favorite actors, Jeremy Irons. I enjoyed that movie a lot being a writer and a bibliophile…

MUSIC

Rodriguez’s “Sugar Man” is constantly on repeat… His music is so simple and pure and thoughtful. I’ve also discovered Petite Noir from South Africa. Yannick Ilunga, you are so awesome to me.

I’m so looking forward to Groundhog Day and NO MORE WINTER!

I hope everyone’s having and will continue to have a goode week…

Mid -Week Update

Hello all… I’m so glad that we’re almost through with January, because I CAN NOT wait until Spring… I miss riding my bike SOOO much… The poor thing just sits in my room, with all of my dirty clothes laying on it until I go do laundry…

So…

MOVIES

Jane Campion has crept onto my list of favorite directors (with Jean-Pierre Jeunet, Spike Lee and David Lynch). I started with The Piano, which was very poetic and sensual… A few days ago I watched Sweetie from 1989, the year I was born and it was quite frantic and very interesting. Anyone else seen these films? How’d you find them? Any recommendations?

MUSIC

I believe someone cried out “SOMEONE SAVE THE MUSIC!” and I’ve found an artist, well, two artists who I believe can… Denitia Odigie and Sene… Since there’s so much shameless commercialization, I have’nt listen to any new hip-hop/R&B for years but these two have broken my fast… Go to Youtube and/or download their mp3s ASAP if you want to hear something talented and fresh in the genre.

Etc.

Tuesday was the last day of my Magical Breakfast Cream… It was sure nice to have eggs for breakfast after waking…

What have I been watching like crazy on Youtube? Issa Rae’s “Awkward Black Girl”… It’s so hilarious and clever. Issa your a genius in my book and I love you, keep up the goode work and entertain me…

I hope everyone’s having and will continue to have a goode week…

The Stuff of Poetry

The day I realized that I was a poet
it was almost midnight
on the day of the week
when birds read to the trees…

My eyes were always open, it’s just I
started to see in green and FEEL MUSIC on my skin instead of hearing it with my ears..

From then on, I read differently:
no longer for entertainment or
education, but to fall in love…

Food did’nt taste the same or maybe, I began to eat different foods and savor
hand- clasped lovers on the streets at night…

More attracted to books than ever…
I upgraded easily from bookworm to
bibliophile; I just breathe better around books, like how I feel better with alcohol

I began to see poems everywhere… with a squirrel in the park, a lone child on a swing or a hobo on a bench… I realized that there were as many poems as there are grains of sand
on the beach… and so I asked
myself, “Where do all of these poems come from?”

I soon answered myself when I put my pen to the paper and the words fell from the sky…

2013: 365

my morning coffee should
wake you
soaked into my lips
I’ll give you a kiss…
my dear, my sweetheart
I know you adore me
‘cuz you’ve set me on fire
to light up the night

surprise me with lunch one day
soup, then bananas and a Stella Artois
I’ll smoke only on Wednesdays
after the deer start to wander
in the park
and they start to dance with each
other

Sunday is the Lord’s day; the day to
write poems and anonymous letters
the day to drink Earl Grey tea
when darkness falls, I’ll put on a
dress and my gold earrings and
walk the streets in search of your love…

Mid- Week Update

Greetings, from my room, where I’m listening to a CD from The Smiths, one of my ABSOLUTE fave bands.

Currently, the weather in Chicago is quite cold, not that I expect anything different… It’s mid- January, and I’m frustrated with all of the Christmas decorations that I’m STILL seeing… People, please, it’s the NEW year for a reason… MOVE ON… Take the SHIT down…

Earlier today, I got a new (to me) sandwich from the bakery in Evanston. It’s called a “Caprese” and it’s meat-less and absolutely DELICIOUS… I highly recommend it, go to Bennison’s Bakery and try it.

BOOKS

This evening, I finished reading Queen of Dreams by Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni. Four stars. What I liked most about it was the topic of dreams and the lovely descriptions of those dreams, as well as the uplifting ending after so much sadness, anger and depression. I’ve also started reading Saul Williams’ poetry. FYI: he’s one of my human pagan gods… I adore him.

MOVIES

A goode movie I’ve watched recently was “Lemming”, a French movie with Andre Dussolier, Charlotte Gainsbourg and Charlotte Rampling. I loved it. It was a mindfuck though, and that’s why I’ll enjoy watching it again.
I also watched part two of “The Lord of The Rings”, which was pretty awesome. I can’t wait to watch part three.

ETC.

For two days now, I’ve been eating Magical Breakfast Cream, a wonderful recipe from The French Women Don’t Get Fat Cookbook. I have four more days to go. And yes, this a lot easier to complete for me than the leeks…

I hope everyone’s having and will continue to have a goode week.

SICK DAY

when she’s sick, it’s fear of the cold
against her throat
it’s badly scrambled eggs, tea and
generic ibuprofen
while Francoiz Breut plays ALL DAY
LONG

she’s cold, but hot at the same time
peut-etre all she can do is read
but there ARE so many choices
it’s quite overwhelming
so much so, she can’t breathe

WATER, no, wine, that’s what
she needs
but she wants Coca- Cola and to
watch Cocteau’s Orpheus ONE MORE TIME, to re-read all of her old diaries,
imagine old photos that she was
too scared to take

“how can I pose? my jeunesse is
lifeless
like a raisin or a slice of bread…”
